THIS IS A MEETING FOR STUDENTS AND DRIVERS.  Regular meetings are Sunday and Wednesday afternoons.

NH SPCA (Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals) brings animals and people together by providing adoption, education, and sheltering in a welcoming environment. Club members will help take care of the sheltered animals as official SPCA volunteers. An initial training session will teach students more about the SPCA and its missions. It is required to be at least 16 years old to join this club.

Adopt a Beach Program and NH Coastal Clean UpNH Coastal Cleanup is part of an international beach cleanup each fall. This year we will participate on Sept. 21 from 1:00-3:00. We also adopted a beach to clean up in collaboration with the UU church and we do this the first Sunday each month. We work with the Blue Ocean Society.

Hats for People who are Homeless knits hats and scarves for people who are homeless. Members are encouraged to knit on their own time, as well as attending the meetings which are held twice a week. No prior knitting experience necessary.This year we will participate in the Peace Day Exeter on Sept 21 by knitting squares for Afgans for Afganis.

Dog Walking Club walks staff/faculty dogs during the day when their owners are unable to walk them. A club member commits to one day a week to walk one or two dogs for half an hour

Food Pantry works with a local pantry in Exeter (St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry) to provide for members of the community in need. Student volunteers walk to the pantry once a week where they work with Exeter citizen volunteers bagging groceries and toiletries for families and restocking the pantry shelves.

Head Start is a national organization designed to enrich the lives of families living below the poverty line. Our role is to play with and baby sit young children ranging in ages from infant – six years old for two hours while their parents are in their Tuesday night parental training classes. Amnesty International is a worldwide organization founded in 1961 by Peter Benenson.  Amnesty strives to promote the protection and preservation of human rights and human dignity.  The Exeter chapter of Amnesty holds weekly meetings where it discusses current events in the media and writes urgent action letters to members of government.  Furthermore, the club will inform the Exeter community of human rights issues through movie screenings and a Write for Rights event later in the term.  This term's focuses are on human rights defenders across the globe.

Chain of Friends is a mentoring group at the local Stratham Cooperative Middle School. Students of the school, both special needs and typical, attend the events, along with students from the Academy. The main goal of this group is to provide an opportunity for special needs students to meet and form relationships with their peers while participating in engaging activities. This group leaves a positive impact on everyone that is involved. Past activities have included ice skating, bowling, baking, arts and crafts, outdoor games, and many others.

Cultural Outreach is a group meant to "reach out" to students to educate younger students about different cultures.  Our group usually consists of a diverse group of PEA students from many different countries.  As a group, we visit, present to, and talk about our cultures, to elementary and/or middle school students in the area.  In our presentations we do a variety of activities, including telling stories, presenting cultural artwork, literature, food, and attire, and teaching hands-on games.

Exeter AIDS Response is a student-run group on campus that strives to primarily raise awareness among the student body of the gravity of the AIDS epidemic in the world and even in our community. Along with awareness campaigns, this group will sponsor activities, such as vigils, service projects, and inviting speakers to get students, as well as faculty, more involved in the global fight against AIDS.

Harris Family Childcare members go to Harris Family Children’s Center individually once a week to work with preschool and occasionally kindergarten. The members mainly assist the teachers, read books to the kids, help them with making crafts, give out snacks, and play with the kids. The club is not a year long commitment but people interested in childcare should sign up for a format to go in the beginning of each term and old members should also resign up.

Middle School Mentors is a club that focuses on helping middle school students with homework in a variety of subjects. PEA students work with the Cooperative Middle School students in one-on-one mentoring and begin to develop strong friendships. As time allows, students who are done with their homework are also allowed to play games like, wiffle ball and Pictionary. This is a year long program, but since it meets Wed. afternoon, members with sports can take terms off.

Music Lessons:  Intermediate to advanced musicians sign up at the beginning of the year for this one-year long commitment to teach children of PEA faculty, staff, and from the community their instrument. Times are privately arranged between the teacher and the student and take place every week in the music building or the academy center. Through musical interactions, the club hopes to foster friendship between not only faculty & staff and the participants, but also between their children and the participants. We run a recital at the end of the year.

Pen Pals is our largest ESSO program. Students who sign up for this program MUST agree to write the three letters per term and MUST agree to attend one or two meet the Pen Pal sessions during meetings on Wed. You must commit to doing this for a full year. If you are going to go away for a term, you must find someone to partner with you and share a pen pal. Pen Pals exchange letters with children between the ages of 4 and 8 in the Exeter area. The children come from the Montessori Pre-School, Lincoln Street (fourth grade), and Great Bay Kid’s Company (kindergarten). Exonians send and receive letters every other week with their pen pals, and at the end of the term, we have a party when we meet our Pen Pals.

Seacoast Charter School is a very small school with a total of 60 students within the grade levels from 1 to 6. We help in the classes and provide a variety of presentations to them particularly with culture, theater and music.(Spring term: Shakespeare drama students will help with their Shakespeare play)

Tents of Hope Project for Darfur. This is a project whereby we will paint the panels of a tent and provide awareness to students about the genocide in Darfur. We will work with the Exeter Peace Day and various local organizations to paint the tent.  In Nov. 2008, the tent will go to Washington DC to encourage our administration to help the refugees and to end the genocide. As part of this project, we started a STAND Chapter.

Tutoring for Children is dedicated to tutoring faculty/staff children and children in the Exeter area in all subject matters. Exeter students will be assigned to one person to tutor for the entire school year or as needed and they will be given an assignment via email by the heads. Sometimes, students may tutor adults, as well.

There is a mandatory ESSO introductory meeting on 9/12 at 7:00 in Assembly Hall. 

Kids Create is designed to provide arts and crafts lessons to kids who may or may not have opportunities to create art in their daily lives. Every Sunday the club does a craft that teaches new art skills to the kids, while still being fun. After introducing the craft, the PEA students help the children and sometimes make their own craft.

Attends Boy Scout Troop 322 meetings on Sunday afternoons and help the members finish their scouting requirements.  THIS IS A TENTATIVE START DATE

Exeter Scouting Outreach is a group of Academy students who were in the Scouts before coming to Exeter and wish to continue work with and give back to Scouting. We do so by attending the meetings of Troop 332 and acting as Junior Assistant Scoutmasters. This means that we aid in running the meetings, instruct on Scout skills, and generally assist the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader whenever possible.

Best Buddies is an international organization that pairs people with intellectual disabilities with high school and college students to foster 1-on-1 friendships. Buddy pairs attend various events together, such as holiday parties and bowling nights. Best Buddies is a year-long commitment.
